Working in collaboration with partner organisations and individuals in low- and middle-income countries, our Human Settlements research group has been leading the field on urban issues including urban poverty, rural-urban linkages, urbanisation and development and climate change adaptation.

IIED is looking for a research professional to work in its Human Settlements research group. This exciting opportunity would be ideal for someone interested in urbanisation issues - including urban poverty, urban governance, urban food security, rural-urban linkages, and infrastructure for economic development.

As a researcher you will contribute to and develop a programme of work on environment and development issues in urban centres in low- and middle-income countries. Ideally, the programme of work will also be informed by a strong understanding of gender issues in urban contexts.

To succeed in this role you must have substantial research experience evidenced by a track record of publications of different nature and by roles in international research processes and debates.

As well as a postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline you will have proven capacity to engage with debates, processes, actors and institutions in the sustainable development arena relating to human settlements, to influence them and achieve impact.

You will be fluent in English with excellent communication skills, demonstrated by the ability to negotiate, influence and collaborate with a diverse range of cultures both in writing and verbally.
