As an institution responsible for coordinating climate change initiatives in Indonesia and also serving as a national focal point for international climate change negotiation, DNPI commissioned this study to develop adaptation strategy recommendations for the government, sectoral actors and communities. The report was based on a previous climate vulnerability and risk assessment in four provinces: South Sumatra, South Sulawesi, Gorontalo and Riau.

The needs identified by this study are to have agreed minimum requirements on conducting vulnerability assessment, a sequential assessment process, scope of information and proxy indicators.
