A new report by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) outlines the dramatic changes Asia-Pacific nations would face if we cannot cool down the temperature. Such a temperature spike would have dire consequences for the health of city-dwellers, rob companies and industries of able workers, and put pressure on already strained natural resources such as water.

The question is: how are inclusive cities coping with rising temperatures?

To find out join us for a webinar on Friday, 8th of September 2017, at 13:30 IST (08:00 AM GMT).

This webinar is part of Asian Cities Climate Change Resilience Network (ACCCRN) Storytelling Competition, in partnership with Thomson Reuters Foundation (TRF). The ACCCRN Network and TRF share the goal of raising awareness about climate change.

Hosted by ACCCRN Network, the webinar will focus on:

  1. What are the impacts of the rising temperature on the ecosystem and agriculture, and on the social, health, and economic conditions in cities? How has the impact of rising temperature been unfairly distributed with undue costs being placed on those with low socioeconomic status or any other social disaggregation (gender and age)?
  2. What actions should be taken by cities to overcome this problem and how should they develop the interventions to ensure that they will be accessible and reach out effectively to the most vulnerable? How can understanding the root causes of inequalities enable adaptation and the building of resilience to climate hazards in an intelligent and just way?
  3. What innovations from the affected community can address the challenge they are facing? And how can they create a social safety net for the most at risk within the vulnerable groups?

Speakers to include:

Dr. Umamaheshwaran Rajsekar, Director & Practice Head - Risk & Resilience, TARU Leading Edge

A Q&A will follow the presentations. Facilitation by Nyoman Prayoga/Denia Syam, ACCCRN Network.

To attend please REGISTER below and following the instructions. You will need to register as an ACCCRN member but it is FREE and only takes 3 minutes
